Employment and Programs

The LSU AgCenter is fully committed to fostering an inclusive environment to support persons with disabilities as well as meeting the requirements of the ADA and State as a Model Employer (SAME) plan including both:

  1. Title I: Prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in all employment practices, including recruitment, hiring, advancement, compensation, fringe benefits, job training and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment.
  1. Title II: Ensures qualified individuals with disabilities have equal access to the full range of programs, services, activities and facilities of the agency.

In both instances and upon request, the LSU AgCenter will engage in an interactive process and make every effort to offer a reasonable accommodation, unless the Requestor is not a qualified individual; doing so poses an undue hardship to the agency; or poses a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual with a disability or others.

Digital Accessibility

The LSU AgCenter is committed to ensuring that its websites and other digital resources, content, and services are accessible to people with disabilities. Digital accessibility supports inclusive access to information and services for all users and is an essential part of the LSU AgCenter’s mission of public service.

Digital accessibility includes:

  • Publishing online content that works for users with a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
  • Ensuring that online content works with a broad range of assistive technologies.
  • Readily providing equally effective alternative access for users to receive information or services if the primary online method does not work.

Accessibility Statement

The LSU AgCenter strives to make its web content accessible in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we are actively working to identify and remediate accessibility barriers across our web properties.

If you have trouble accessing any LSU AgCenter digital content, please use our LSU AgCenter Accessible Content Request Form or contact our LSU AgCenter Web Accessibility team at ADA@agcenter.lsu.edu.

Accessibility Checks

All digital resources and content developed and published by LSU AgCenter units should ensure that content is accessible to individuals using a variety of browsing methods and assistive technologies. Accessibility checks should be conducted prior to publishing or disseminating digital content.

Website Accessibility Checker and Reporting Tools

LSU AgCenter websites are evaluated using recognized accessibility standards, including:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA
  • W3C Web Accessibility Initiative – Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA) specifications

These standards help ensure digital content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for users with disabilities.

Siteimprove

The LSU AgCenter uses the Siteimprove accessibility monitoring tool to help identify and remediate accessibility issues across supported websites. Siteimprove enables content editors and administrators to detect common accessibility barriers and improve compliance more efficiently.

Websites created and/or hosted outside of the primary content management system may be added to Siteimprove for institutional monitoring of accessibility and compliance. In some cases, site administrators may be contacted to assist with technical configuration, such as IP address whitelisting, to ensure accurate scanning.

Webpage Browser-Based Accessibility Checkers

Browser-based accessibility tools can be installed to run automated checks on individual webpages during content creation and review. These tools can assist with identifying common accessibility issues before content is published.

Microsoft Accessibility Checker

Users of Microsoft Office products are encouraged to use the built-in accessibility checkers available in applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. These tools help identify accessibility issues and provide guidance for resolving them before documents are shared or posted online.

Ally in Moodle

The Ally plugin within Moodle automatically checks the accessibility of course materials using WCAG 2.1 AA standards and provides feedback to content creators. Ally helps improve the accessibility of instructional materials and offers alternative formats for learners.

Checking PDF Accessibility

Adobe Acrobat provides tools to evaluate the accessibility of PDF files. Accessibility checks should be performed on PDFs before they are published to ensure content is usable by individuals who rely on screen readers or other assistive technologies.

When PDFs cannot be made fully accessible, alternate accessible formats should be provided upon request.

Requesting Accessible Content or Reporting an Issue

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on an LSU AgCenter website or need information in an alternate format, please fill out the LSU AgCenter Accessible Content Request Form or contact the LSU AgCenter Web Accessibility team at ADA@agcenter.lsu.edu. We will work with you to provide the requested information in an accessible manner and to address reported issues promptly.
