LaSalle Parish Overall Advisory Committee

March 10, 2025

Attending:

The meeting of the LaSalle Parish Overall Advisory Committee was called to order at 11:30am, Monday, March 20, 2025.

Members were thanked for their willingness to serve on the overall committee. For the working lunch, grilled chicken breast with seasoned potatoes and a side of green beans.

During the lunch Silas explained the role and purpose of the overall advisory and presented a flow chart graphic of the process.

Next the Agriculture and Natural Resource (ANR) updates and overview were presented followed by the 4-H updates. Silas explained how the AgCenter reaches clientele, and the types of programs offered are guided by the committee.

Next members reviewed the issues identified from both the ANR and 4-H online surreys.

The floor was opened for discussion by advisory members and the issues identified in the program committees were evaluated.

• Inability to cope
• Self-confidence through hands-on experiences, time management, public speaking
• Interpersonal communication skills / face to face interaction
• Having a place to fit in (Not all excel at sports or academics)
• Lack of knowledge of life skills
• Positive impact through leadership
• Working together & Responsibility
• Bullying, Social Media, Self-image, Use of ATV
• Advertising and promoting the programs and information that is available through the AgCenter
• Farmer’s Markets
• Youth involvement in agriculture
• Seminars and handouts

Committee members were asked to prioritize items provided by the program areas. Each member received a vote to identify which issue they see as most important to address:

4-H:

1. Life Skills / Having a place to fit in
2. Interpersonal communication / Face to face interaction
3. Inability to cope

ANR:

1. Advertising and promoting the programs and information that is available through the AgCenter
2. Seminars and handouts
3. Youth involvement in agriculture
