The MinD-Gut Lab at the LSU AgCenter explores the science of microbe and diet interactions in gut-brain connection.

Diet and microbiota and brain connection. Metabolites, hormones, immnunomodulators, and neurotransmitters produced by gut microbes travel to the brain

Trillions of microbes live in our gut and they actively interact with the nervous system. What we eat affects how these microbes communicate with our body and brain.

Our lab aims to answer three key questions:

  • How do dietary components influence microbiota-gut-brain communication?
  • Which microbial metabolites have specific effects on the brain?
  • How do diet-microbe interactions impact brain health and behavior?
